Non-Linear Inductor Models Comparison for Switched-Mode Power Supplies Applications

چکیده

The use of non-linear power inductors, intended as devices exploited up to a current at which the inductance is halved, great interest in switched-mode supplies (SMPSs). Indeed, it allows lighter and cheaper inductors improving density. On other hand, analysis SMPSs equipped with requires appropriate modeling inductor reproducing versus current. This paper compares two main analytical models proposed literature: former based on polynomial, latter exploits arctangent function reproduce non-linearity inductance. Performance compared by considering effort retrieving model’s parameters, evaluating profile characteristic equation inductor, exploiting simulate supply. Results are given both terms computation time accuracy reference experimental values, highlighting pros cons each model.

Switched Mode Power Supplies for DC to DC Conversion

Introduction The widespread use of battery operated portable devices such as cell phones and laptops has created the need for DC to DC conversion power supplies such as switched mode power supplies. According to an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) study [1], the amount of electricity that flowed through switched mode power supplies in 2004 was “6% of the national electric bill”. The pro...

Practical Feedback Loop Design Considerations for Switched Mode Power Supplies

Negative feedback control is used in switched-mode power supplies to regulate the output at a desired value. The optimum design of the feedback control loop starts with understanding the characteristics of the power stage, which can be analyzed using small-signal modeling. This paper explains the fundamental idea and meaning of small-signal modeling for power supplies and explores the small-sig...

Quantization-based simulation of switched mode power supplies

This article studies the performance of Quantized State System (QSS) algorithms in the simulation of Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS). Under realistic modeling assumptions, these models result stiff and exhibit frequent discontinuities making them difficult to simulate by classic solvers. However, there are Linearly Implicit QSS (LIQSS) methods that can efficiently handle these types of syst...

Considerations Regarding the Relationship between Power Factor and Harmonic Distortions of Switched Mode Power Supplies

The main goal of this paper is to present some experimental results regarding power factor (PF) and current total harmonic distortions (THDi) of some very common loads on low voltage a.c. lines i.e. the power supply of computers, monitors and TV sets. The causes of some unexpected values are investigated and some physically meaningful explanations are delivered. The impact of the output current...
